WoW Enchanting Guide
A Guide to Enchanting in World of Warcraft
Becoming an enchanter requires either a lot of gold or a lot of patience, or a combination of the two. Here is a WoW enchanting guide to get you started in this profession.
Enchanting can be a very useful profession, but it is also one of the more expensive professions to learn and level up. Enchanting can be useful to every player, since it provides weapons and gear with a permanent attribute. It can also be used to disenchant unwanted green or better items for materials.
wow enchanting guide – Learning to enchant
Just like with all professions, you will have to seek out a trainer to learn enchanting. Remember that enchanting is considered a primary profession, and you are limited to just two primary professions. Since enchanting does not require a gathering skill, you could combine it with tailoring (which also does not require a gathering skill) or take a gathering skill anyways and sell the materials you gather to make money for additional enchanting supplies.
The trainer will train you in enchanting, as well as give you new enchants as you level your skill up. Keep in mind that you will need enchanting materials to do enchanting, most of which come from disenchanting items. Disenchanting an item will destroy it! Make sure that you no longer have a use for that item before you disenchant it.

wow enchanting guide – skill points
Once you have some mats, simply open up your enchanting window, select the recipe you want, and select the item to be enchanted. You can only have one enchant per item, and attempting to add a second enchant will destroy the first. Orange enchants will give you a skill point for nearly every one you do, yellow enchants will give you a skill point for most, green enchants will occasionally award a skill point, and gray enchants will not offer you any skill points.
wow enchanting guide – Disenchanting
The disenchanting skill automatically comes with enchanting, allowing you to disassemble green or better armor and weapons into enchanting materials. Doing so will destroy the item. Higher level gear will give you higher level mats; therefore, it is easiest to level up your enchanting as you level your character. Different types of gear will give you different types of materials. In general, green armor will give you dusts, green weapons will give you essences, blue items will give you shards, and purple items will give you crystals. However, your results may vary.
wow enchanting guide – leveling up
The only way to level up your enchanting skill is to enchant items. There are several ways of doing this. You could enchant your own items as you go along, disenchanting no longer needed gear for materials and enchanting your new gear. This will slowly level you, and you will not have to buy a lot of materials from the Auction House. If you want to level up quickly, you will need a lot of materials on hand already and/or a lot of gold to buy materials. You can then enchant and re-enchant the same item over and over again to gain skill points. Obviously this will “waste” materials, but it will allow you to level more quickly.
Another method that you can use is to offer to sell your enchanting services to other players. If you have the materials on hand, you can offer the enchantments for tips or a set fee. If you don’t have excess materials, you can offer your services for free if the recipient buys their own materials. Many recipients will also offer a small tip for your services. This can be a good way to earn skill points without spending your own pocket money. Some desperate enchanters will even offer to pay the recipient if they choose an enchantment that earns them a skill point. While you still lose money, it is much cheaper to pay 5-15 gold per enchantment than it is to buy the materials in some cases.

Another option is to buy vellum for enchanting. The vellum can be enchanted with various enchants and then sold on the Auction House. The buyer can then use the vellum to enchant their own gear at their own leisure. While you do have to provide your own materials, this can help refund some of your costs without requiring you to spam the trade chat. Certain hard-to-get or popular enchants can make you a lot of money in this fashion.
