Since this character can only be accessed by having a higher level character in the game and by purchasing the expansion, it is assumed that you already know how to play the basics of the game. In fact, Death Knights have the advantage of skipping the earlier levels and start out with a basic set of armor and skills appropriate for a level 55.
WoW Death Knight Guide – What are Death Knights?
Death Knights are similar to warriors in that they can both tank and do damage. Unlike warriors, they do not use shields, and they are the only tanks who are able to use two-handed weapons. They have tough armor and various abilities that allow them to take and deal damage mercilessly. They are available to both Alliance and Horde in all races.

WoW Death Knight Guide – Pro’s
There are many positives to playing a Death Knight. Death Knights start at level 55 and come equipped with uncommon plate gear. Their starting zone quests provide them with rare gear, allowing them to be decently geared from the very start. They utilize runic power and a rune system that is unique to their class. This also allows them to do rune forging, which allows them to enchant their weapons for free. The Death Knight utilizes both magic and melee abilities, can pull enemies directly to them, and are particularly effective in fighting against casters, which is a great bonus in PVP play.

However, all classes come with their own disadvantages as well. If you are new to WoW, you will not be able to roll a Death Knight as your first character, as this character is only unlocked after you have a level 55 on that server. Because they are new yet skip the “noob” quests, many people have rolled Death Knights as an alt, causing some servers to be overpopulated with them. The lack of a shield does cause them to take more damage when tanking. And the starting quests for Death Knights are pretty much mandatory – you really cannot grind your way to a higher level without doing them.
WoW Death Knight Guide – Rolling your Character
To roll a Death Knight you must have at least one level 55 character and the Wrath of the Lich King expansion. You are limited to one Death Knight per server. Deciding whether or not a Death Knight is right for you is something even a WoW Death Knight guide can’t tell you. Unlike other classes, the Death Knight’s mixed abilities can appeal to many players or just as quickly turn them off to the character. If you want to stick to purely casting or purely melee capabilities, this may not be the character for you.
On the other hand, you could try creating a Death Knight and doing the starting zone quests. These don’t take much more time than completing any starting zone quests, and the unique content may be a nice break from the routine WoW that you are used to. By the time you’ve completed the beginner quests and are ready to venture out into Azeroth, you’ll know whether or not the Death Knight is the character for you.
WoW Death Knight Guide – Choosing a Race
No WoW Death Knight guide would be complete without a discussion of race. Death Knights can be rolled from any race, which gives you a wide variety of choices. Some people may choose their Death Knight by looks alone. If you do look at the racial talents, there really are benefits from nearly every race.

The Shadowmeld and increased dodge of the Night Elves is great for PVP. Stone Form from the Dwarves is useful to a tank. And the Human expertise in swords is useful to any class that handles a sword. The Tauren War Stomp is a PVP asset, and the Will of the Forsaken of the Undead is as well. In fact, you can hardly go wrong in the race you choose for your Death Knight.
