World of Warcraft Mining
In World of Warcraft mining is one of the many professions you can choose as a character. It is most compatible with blacksmithing, engineering, or jewelcrafting, though it can also be used on its own as a way to earn money for your character.
Mines are found throughout the game, and if you level your World of Warcraft mining as you level your character, you will find that you can mine nodes as you come across them in the game.
Mining Azeroth:
In order to start mining in World of Warcraft, you will have to officially choose it as one of your professions. This requires you to visit a mining trainer in one of the main cities. (Note to Night Elves: Darnassus does not have a mining trainer, so if you would like your Night Elf character to learn mining you will be required to visit Ironforge or Stormwind for training.)
Once you have learned mining, you will see it appear in your abilities book. You will also find that you can “find minerals” and “smelt” as well. Find minerals is a mini-map option that allows you to see where minable nodes are located (keep in mind that only one item can be tracked at a time). Smelting allows you to turn the raw ore into bars.
Before you head out to mine, make sure you pick up a mining pick from a merchant, which can usually be found near a trainer. This is required to mine. You may also consider getting a special mining bag, which will allow you to carry your pick, ores, and bars.

You will have to return to this trainer periodically to train in new World of Warcraft mining skills. Once you have reached a level of 300 you will have to head to Outland for training, and over 375 you will have to go to Northrend for training.
World of Warcraft Mining – Finding Ore
World of Warcraft mining is made easier by the “find minerals” ability. This allows you to see nodes on the mini-map when they are nearby. You can also combine this with the “Gatherer” mod that will keep track of the nodes you have mined. Ore is typically found near mountainous terrain and in caves.
The ore comes in a variety of minerals. Copper is the first mineral you will be eligible to mine, and it can be found in many of the lower-level questing zones. As your World of Warcraft mining skill increases, you’ll be able to mine more complex minerals, in this order:
- Copper
- Tin
- Incendicite
- Silver
- Bronze
- Iron
- Indurium
- Gold
- Lesser Bloodstone
